Enrollment Schedule

The Howe School enrolls students at the beginning of first and second semester.  For high school, we allow students to enroll for six weeks after each semester begins.  For middle school, we allow students to enroll between August and March 1st. 

Evaluation of Applicants

The Howe School is a selective boarding school. Prospective students are evaluated in a holistic way. We want to make certain that Howe is an appropriate placement for every student that enrolls. As a college preparatory school, we make every effort to enroll only those students we believe will be successful in this academic environment. Additionally, we want to be as certain as we can be that each new student is a positive addition to the Corps of Cadets. Howe is not a school for “troubled” or “problem” young people. Howe is, however, a wonderful living and learning environment for the young man or woman who will benefit from a positive, structured environment in which each student receives the attention they need to be his or her very best.

Application and References

Enrollment begins with completing the application. Each application must be supported by 3 references from the applying student’s current school. Reference forms are included with the application and may also be printed from this website. In most cases, the Admissions Office will also accept reference forms used at other accredited boarding schools.

Entrance Exam

The Howe School also requires an entrance exam. The exam is a predictor of academic potential and also measures a student’s current abilities, both verbally and quantitatively. Our admissions committee never wants to see a student set up for failure. We want to make certain that all students are capable of achieving academically at Howe prior to enrollment.

Campus Visit

We strongly encourage that all interested families make a campus visit. There really is no substitute for a visit. It is the only way families can really see the school in its totality. The visit will answer questions, allay fears, and help you to determine if Howe is the right school for your son or daughter.
