The Howe School is a private, co-educational, college preparatory boarding school located on a 100-acre campus in northeast Indiana.

Mission

Howe prepares young individuals for advanced education while developing the character and intellect required for success in any endeavor.

Accreditation

The Howe School is academically accredited by the State of Indiana, North Central Association (NCA), and the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS).

Educating Cadets in Grades 7th to 12th

141 cadets were enrolled during the 2010-2011 school year. Currently, the Admissions Office is accepting applications for the 2011-2012 school year and 2012 Summer Camp sessions.

Student Life

Howe cadets come primarily from Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Ohio, but also from 15 other states and several nations. Sixteen percent are students of color; eighteen percent are international students; twelve percent are young women. Fifty percent of the students at The Howe School receive financial aid.

Academic Structure

A unique individualized grading system, called PAR, helps students discover what they can do and then reach for it. Classes range from Christian Ethics to Honors English and post Calculus, and fulfill the basic requirements for college.

Community, Leadership, & Personal Responsibility

Howe uses JROTC guidelines to ensure a rigorous curriculum and strong community, where leadership skills and personal responsibility can develop. Students play sports, participate in activities and work their way through the ranks of the Cadet Corps, taking on greater responsibilities with each step. They also attend chapel four evenings a week and a full worship service on Sundays. A Christian School, Howe maintains its historic affiliation with the Episcopal Church but admits students of all faiths.

The Howe School Faculty

Cadets are instructed by over 32 faculty members, more than 60 percent of whom have earned Master’s or higher degrees.

Top-Notch Technology

Across the curriculum, technology is part of the way students learn. Classrooms and computer labs feature monitored Internet access, state-of-the-art software, email and access to the school’s local network. All high school students are required to purchase and bring a laptop computer to use throughout their tenure at Howe. Lower School students aren’t required to purchase a laptop, but they are allowed if the parent wishes to purchase one for them.

College Enrollment & Career Counseling

Students learn very quickly what the expectations of the school are and what they will need to accomplish to meet those goals. By providing a curriculum that prepares cadets for the rigorous demands of college courses, The Howe School develops a base for cadets to perform successfully at the college level of academics.

100% of the 2011 graduating class was accepted for admission into a college or university.

Medical Care

Medical care is provided by the school infirmary, which is staffed by a registered nurse during the day and advanced EMT’s at night. The infirmary is overseen by a local physician.
